THE resilience of the human spirit is at the heart of a new play opening in Salisbury tomorrow (Saturday).

Tissue is on stage at Studio Theatre until Thursday with a special gala evening tomorrow and silent auction.

All proceeds from the play are going to Salisbury District Hospital’s Breast Cancer Unit Campaign.

Among the goodies on offer in the auction are spa vouchers, tickets to Little Shop of Horrors at Salisbury Playhouse and That’ll be the Day at City Hall, earrings from Tribbecks, a meal for two from Qudos and a Ladies day Newbury race pass from Betfred.

Additionally, there are is a three car passenger track day from Thruxton, a one hour sports massage, a silver harp necklace from Allum and a Sidaway Head stylist haircut from Seven Ivy.

Dan Avery, who is directing the play, said: “We have so many fabulous goodies with a carvery for two a Swann@Stoford, a food voucher from Fish Row Deli Cafe, an hour’s Swedish massage and a mini celebrity package with Barbara Windsor, Steve McFadden and Noel Edmunds signed photos.

“There will be a black tie champagne reception tomorrow with a few canapés, hostesses in pink corsets, speeches from the Stars Appeal and Moore Stephens, the mayor and then the opening of the show itself.”

Tissue is on stage at Studio Theatre in Ashley Road at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10 except for the gala night where tickets are £20.

Written by Louise Page in 1978,the play is based on a woman who has breast cancer.

Dan said: “While there are some extremely poignant and quite solemn scenes, the play is a very energetic, visual feast with moments that will make you laugh out loud.

“The important thing is the resilience of the human spirit - the strength that comes from smiling through bad times.

“We will hopefully bring a better understanding of how women cope with breast cancer.”
