A FACEBOOK page for missing dogs in Salisbury has gone viral since its inception last week and has already hit 1,000 'likes' and is rising.

The missing dogs Salisbury page was created by Farraday Crews, Jasmine McLeod and Emily Gurd to hunt for Olive, a white Jack Russell, and Rufus, a black male cross breed.

After two days of organised searches Rufus was found safe and well by his owner Jackie Ward albeit having lost 700g in weight.

She posted on the group afterwards: "This day will remain with me forever and I am convinced that you all played a huge part.

"I want to convey my most heartfelt thanks to all who came to my aid.

"Who says people power doesn't work!!!!.

"I met many wonderful people and thanks seems inadequate but THANK YOU SO MUCH."

Fresh from this initial success Farraday wants to keep the group alive so that any other lost dogs in Salisbury can be found.

"There is a Facebook page for dogs lost in Wiltshire but there was nothing specific for Salisbury," she said.

"I am currently on maternity leave and rather than sitting at home twiddling my thumbs I wanted to do something with my time.

"After setting up the group on Tuesday the likes have just continued to spiral."

After the early success of finding Rufus, Facebook users have been posting pictures of dogs that have been found, with a post on Sunday night shared by more than 500 people.

"It wasn't really our plan," Farraday added. "The main thing we will be concentrating on is getting support groups out into the field when a dog is lost.

"But obviously we will continue to share pictures of dogs that have been found by people."

Such has been the volume of interest in the page the group have even had to take on extra admin volunteers to deal with the workload.

Yet Olive, the white Jack Russell who went missing in the Chalke Valley on Friday, April 10 and was one of the main inspirations behind the page, is still missing and Farraday is appealing for the public to help in locating her.

She is a small build, docked tail, with a few scars on her snout and top of her head. Anybody with any information should message the page or call 01722 780256.
