THE Cathedral's spire is turning green tonight in support of the Church of England's campaign on climate change. The decision was made to light up the spire in green to raise awareness of climate change and to show support for our Bishop, who is the lead bishop on the environment. The spire will remain green while the COP21 (climate change conference) is going on in Paris.

The colour change also coincides with the Church of England 'Pilgrimage2Paris'. Forty-five walkers, aged 18 to 75, set off from St Martin in the Fields by Trafalgar Square about two weeks ago and are due to arrive in Paris in the next couple of days.

As previously reported by the Journal, the Right Rev Nicholas Holtam gave a lecture in Paris called 'Nature and Man in the Image of God' which explored climate change a s a central issue in Christian theology. The Bishop said: "The use of energy stored in fossil fuels has given us marvellous developments. We have made rapid progress. Now we live in a new era, when climate change is caused by human activity, particularly the use of fossil fuels. That which has been good for us is now a mixed blessing. It is creating new dangers".

A Salisbury Prayer Pilgrimage is being held at St Thomas's Church on Sunday to support those walking to Paris with the Church of England. Meet outside St Thomas at 7.45am for prayers before walking around the city. People are free to join at any time. For further details email jonplows@aol.com.
