A WINTERBOURNE Stoke couple have finally said "I do" after a 15 year engagement.

Doris Woollard and Jeff Hyde tied the knot at the registry office in Salisbury.

The pair decided to get married to coincide with Jeff's 75th birthday and the fact that it is a leap year.

Speaking about the special day, Doris said: "It was absolutely marvellous. It was a beautiful day, everybody had a good time and plenty of food.

"We had a good laugh [during the wedding ceremony at the registry office] which you couldn't do at a church. "

But, Doris admits it does not feel any different to be married.

The couple have been together for 37 years after meeting at a country and western event at High Post.

Doris said: "I was up there with my friends and saw him across the dance floor and thought 'he's mine. That was it."

Doris and Jeff held a special wedding reception and birthday party in their garden where they were joined by their family, including their grand children and great grand children, and friends. About 70 guests came along to mark the occasion.

During the wedding reception guests could take a look at a number of photograph albums of the couple, including their garden.

Doris added: "I want to thank everyone for turning up and hope they all had a good time, and thank them for the gifts and cards we got."
