STAFF at Salisbury District Hospital have said a fond farewell to Miles Woodford who retired as a radiographer after 45 years of service.

Miles started his career at Porton Down and then joined the Salisbury General Infirmary to train as a radiographer in 1971.

When the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre opened in 1984, Miles was appointed superintendent radiographer in its new X-ray department, a position he held continuously until his retirement.

He became an expert in the examination of severely injured spinal patients and lectured widely throughout the country at colleges and international meetings.

Peter Hill, chief executive at Salisbury District Hospital said: “Over the many years that Miles has been with us he has been a well-known and popular personality throughout the spinal centre and across the hospital.

“He has performed many management roles in the X-ray department where he was in charge of the GP X-ray unit, providing an excellent service to local GPs and patients.

“He always played a full role in the social life of the hospital and was chairman of the social club for several years.

“Miles has devoted his whole professional life to healthcare in Salisbury and I know his expertise as a radiographer will be greatly missed here and throughout the country.”
