SALISBURY MP John Glen has been appointed to a role in the treasury.

Mr Glen will become parliamentary private secretary to Philip Hammond, Chancellor of the Exchequer.

He said it was a "great honour and a privilege".

Mr Glen told the Journal: “I am honoured and delighted to have been appointed to the key role of parliamentary private secretary to the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

“I hope I will be able to apply my previous experience serving as PPS to Eric Pickles and Sajid Javid to good effect and be an effective liaison between the Chancellor and the parliamentary party.”

A parliamentary private secretary works for a senior minister or shadow minister as their contact with backbench MPs, gauging opinion on government policy.
