FILM lovers are in for a treat this summer with a packed programme of cinematic offerings hitting the big screen at Salisbury Arts Centre.

From Icelandic valleys to adventures in the Amazon rainforest, there is something for everyone.

Icelandic film Rams is being screened tomorrow (Thursday) and is the tale of two feuding brothers and their flocks of rare breed sheep.

This is followed by Anomalisa (15) on Wednesday, July 27, 7.30pm. It is described as an insightful, funny and suitably anomalous study of the human condition. The unique adult animation uses stop frame techniques to bring this quirky love story to life.

And for the family there will be Amazonia on Saturday, August 6, 11am. A captivating wordless adventure for the whole family to enjoy together. The film tells the story of Sai, a capuchin monkey born and raised in captivity, who finds himself lost in the Amazon rainforest after a plane crash.

The story of a woman who falls victim to her own desires is told in Marguerite (15) on Saturday, August 6, 7.30pm. Regularly singing for her friends, Marguerite is blissfully unaware that she is excruciatingly out of tune. When she decides to perform in public, things become complicated.

On August 18, audiences can watch Dheepan (15), 7.30pm. Tamil Tiger is a freedom fighter who attempts to start a new life in Paris. As the Sri Lankan civil war draws to a close, he flees the country with a woman and a girl to pose as a family and improve their chances of claiming asylum.

And on August 25, The Brand New Testament (15) hits the big screen. The surrealist comedy imagines God as a scruffy middle-aged Belgian man who controls the world with an old computer. When his rebellious daughter decides that she can do a much better job of it, she sets out to recruit some new apostles to write six new gospels.

Continuing the packed film programme is Son of Saul (15) on September 1, 7.30pm. Saul is a Hungarian-Jewish Sonderkommando, charged with the horrific duty of burning his own people. When he discovers the body of a boy who he first mistakes for his son, he sets out to give him a proper Jewish funeral.
