SALISBURY MP John Glen opened the new Prime Minister’s debut parliamentary question time on Wednesday afternoon.

Welcoming Theresa May, Mr Glen swiftly moved on to Monday evening’s Trident vote.

He asked if Mrs May welcomed Monday’s “emphatic” vote for the Trident successor program.”

Mrs May responded: “I think that vote showed the commitment of this house, it showed that we have not only committed to our own national security but also consider the security of our European and Nato allies, we can now get on with the essential job of renewing our nuclear deterrent, and can I thank those 140 Labour Members of Parliament who put the national interest first and voted to renew the nuclear deterrent.”

The Trident nuclear defence renewal program passed a commons vote on Monday evening by 471 votes to 116.
