VOLUNTEERS have helped create a new viewpoint overlooking the cathedral and surrounding city.

The group, called the Friends of Harnham Slope (FOHS), regularly meet for workdays to help maintain the wooded downland site of Harnham Slope.

Earlier this year it received a £2,000 grant from Salisbury Area Board to fund tree surgery work and help create the viewpoint.

One of the volunteers, Paul Dorey, said: “One of the Slope’s major assets is the views over the city and surrounding landscape.

“Many walkers and their dogs enjoy the views and the pathways which FOHS have kept clear over many years.

"Runners too find the pathways an ideal environment, far from the madding crowds, unforgiving pavements and roadways to exercise.

"Happily we were successful with our application for funding and the work has just been completed.

“The new viewpoint will supplement the existing three viewpoints.”
