THE community have pulled together to help fill 50 shoeboxes to give children in Romania a merry Christmas.
Tisbury fundraiser Valerie Ridout has been leading the effort after its success last year when her seven-year-old son came up with the idea.
Support has been received from businesses in the area as well as local residents.
Tesco donated toiletries and Stalbridge Linen Services in Shaftesbury gave 50 pens and flannels to fill the shoeboxes, which were donated by Shoe Zone in Salisbury. Tiger in Salisbury also donated items for the shoebox appeal.
And residents in the village made 50 knitted teddy bears, crocheted hats and gloves, and many others donated money to buy items and gift wrapping as well as purchasing gifts for the boxes.
St John's Primary School in Tisbury held a mufty day, which raised £50 to help with the transportation of the boxes.
The children along with other volunteers helped with the packing and wrapping of the boxes at the Nadder Centre to get them ready to be sent off.
Once the shoeboxes arrive in Romania they will be given out to schools and families.
Valerie said: "Tisbury is a lovely place to live and the community spirit is amazing."
