A MAN whose son was killed in a crash in June has raised £1,000 for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance with the help of family and friends.

Steve Adlam was moved to the fundraising venture after witnessing the efforts made by paramedics and the crew of the air ambulance when son, Joe, was involved in the accident near Langford.

Despite their best efforts, Joe passed away shortly after arriving at Southampton General Hospital.

The cheque for £1,000 was handed to the Hampshire and IOW team at a ceremony at Thruxton on Saturday.

Steve said: "We left Thruxton with the greatest of admiration for these guys after we were given an insight to their daily schedules and requirements.

"These people need all the support they can get because everything counts, and they make a difference at the scene of any accident."

A keen DJ, and lover of Drum and Bass, 23-year-old Joe, also known as Ikon, and his band Home Grown Crew regularly performed at events.

His fellow DandB friends joined Steve and his family in the campaign, and took it upon themselves to raise money for the funeral costs and the head stone.

This was achieved in a variety of ways, including a sky dive by Joe's girlfriend, and the money raised will also enable a park bench to be erected in Salisbury, where family and friends will meet to remember him.

Steve added: "It costs £7,000 a day to keep this facility available to us all, so please donate as one day you may need these valued people to treat your loved one."
