POOL players in the city chalked up plenty of game time in a 24-hour sponsored event to boost funds for eight-year-old Amelia Russell who is battling a rare and life-threatening cancer.

Fundraising for the Harnham Junior School pupil has exceeded £17,000 after her mum Rebecca launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise £150,000 to pay for an experimental drug treatment for the cancer, which is now in Amelia's bones.

Salisbury Snooker Club held the event and a raffle on Saturday, which is estimated to have raised about £2,000 but the fundraising amount is still being finalised. Organisers say the event, which was organised in just two weeks, went really well and 10 people took part.

The local community have been rally together to support the cause and raise money for Amelia.

Staff at Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre will be cycling 100 miles, non-stop on a static bike on November 8, 9am to 5pm for the appeal.

A Halloween disco for children is being held by the afterschool club at Amelia’s school on Sunday at Harnham Scout Hall.

There will be a disco for four to seven year olds and one for eight to 11 year olds.

Harnham Local, Harnham Road, is holding a raffle and table top and cake sale on Sunday, 12pm-3pm.
