A GROUP that helps develop public speaking and leadership skills has been established in Salisbury.
Salisbury Speakers was created in December 2016, and is a branch of Toastmasters, an international non-profit organisation.
Previously residents would have to travel to Southampton, Bournemouth and Basingstoke to take part in the sessions, but can now make the shorter journey to West Harnham.
There were two meetings in December, the latest being a Christmas special that included mince pies.
Sessions usually consist of a warm up exercise where everyone has the chance to speak for 15 seconds, prepared speeches which are part of a prepared programme, table topics aimed at developing impromptu speaking, and evaluations.
Members range from the extremely nervous, to professionals who are honing their skills.
Guests can attend up to three sessions for free, and there will be a joining fee of £40 for those who want to become a permanent member (this covers the costs of a joining pack including manuals), and an ongoing fee of £10 per month which will help cover the club costs.
Salisbury Speakers takes place on the first and third Monday of each month (excluding Bank Holidays) at St George's Church Hall.
