A DRINK driver caught behind the wheel while more than twice the legal limit said it was a "moment of madness".
Richard Bourne was banned for 20 months at Salisbury Magistrates Court on Friday after pleading guilty to drink driving, driving without insurance, and driving without a valid MOT.
Prosecuting, Kate Prince said police had followed Bourne's VW Golf as he swerved along Wilton Road after a rugby club party on Saturday, December 17.
They pulled him over and a breathalyser test showed that he had 76mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.
"I cannot believe I did it," said the 50-year-old.
"It was a moment of madness, and is completely unacceptable."
His MOT had expired and his insurance was also invalid.
Bourne, of Wyndham Road, Salisbury, said he had had a difficult year with divorce proceedings, and had always relied on his wife to do the insurance.
Magistrate Deborah Couzens ordered him to pay a total of £607.
