A SALISBURY-BASED community for multiple sclerosis (MS) sufferers has been set up to help raise funds to further research into finding a cure of the disease.

Dan Willock has started MS Making Smiles to offer those with the condition a chance to get involved with social gatherings, exercise classes, sporting events as well as fundraising activities for the MS Society.

MS is a neurological condition where the coating around nerve fibres is damaged, causing a range of symptoms that can include mobility problems.

He said: “My mum suffers from MS and I understand what she goes through on a daily basis and the effects that can have on her wellbeing. I decided to set this up to bring all “MSers” together in the Salisbury/South West area and bring happiness and joy to their lives. Encouraging family and friends of “MSers” to join in to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome.

“I aim to raise £5,000 within three years and for the community to continue until a cure is found. It is also to share experiences with each other and support everyone who is effected by MS.”

MS Making Smiles will meet up on a two-weekly basis.

Dan said: “I understand what you all go through, including all the friends and family of MS sufferers. This is our opportunity to bring smiles and joy to those who suffer, whilst also raising awareness and shed loads of money to help find a cure.”
