HANDSOME hounds from south Wiltshire strutted their stuff to bring home top prizes at Crufts 2017.

The competition was held from March 9 to 12 at Birmingham NEC.

Amongst the winners were Woodhenge Star Xtravaganza, also known as Saafi, who won first place in the yearling bitch class.

Her owner Barry Coulson, of Durrington, said: "I am so proud of her and hope she will equal her mother, Ch Woodhenge Star Maiden, on attaining Top Pembroke Corgi in the UK.

"Over the last 12 years we have achieved this honour with five of our corgis.

"The dogs give me so much pleasure and I feel truly blessed to be owned by them."

Charlotte Woodward from Wilton, showing her home bred lakeland terrier Aanevay Sweet Destiny (Skye), won third in the puppy bitch class. And handling her mum Emma's dog, Aaronsway Sungleam (Ziggy), took first in veteran dog category and going on to get best veteran in breed.

Emma said they were "chuffed to bits" with the win.

Charlotte has been showing Dogs at Crufts since the age of 10 years old and in 2010 won the YKC Handling Ages 6-11 years category. She is hoping Skye will do well at many more shows in the future.

Frances and Rohd Smart, who live in the Salisbury area, won first place in the field trial bitch class with their German long-haired pointer Candanbyrig Evening Breeze (Breeze).

Frances said: "We are very pleased because it proves she can work as well as show."

Debbie Hansford, of Lover, and Charis Donnelly, came top in the junior dog class with their catalan sheepdog Le Magicien D'oz Du Clos Millette At Per (Morgon).

Debbie said: "We're really happy, he's done really well this year."

Kim Ellis, of Durrington, came away with second prize in the golden retriever limit dog class with her dog Tenfield Commander In Chief JW, also known as Chieftan, from 19 entries.

And Chieftan's sister Tenfield Sea The Stars JW (Kiwi) was fourth in golden retriever limit bitch category from 21 entries.

It was also a day to remember for Hamptworth dog groomer Rebecca Rowe after her four-year-old standard wire haired Dachshund Coco claimed third prize at Crufts in the Young Kennel Club’s Handling competition for 17-24 year olds.

“I’m pretty happy with the results today,” said the 23-year-old. "She’s amazing and she’ll be making it back here next year.

“I really enjoyed it and I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved today.”
