THE annual Amesbury Carnival is to return in June, and this year's event is to have a movie theme.

Residents are being urged to get involved and enter floats in the procession, dressed as their favourite film characters.

Organisers of the event, which is being sponsored by Bloor Homes, will be appearing as characters from the Dad's Army.

Committee member Phil Monk (AKA Private Godfrey) said that they were hoping to make this year's festival the "biggest and best" yet.

He said: "We would love for as many people as possible to get into the carnival spirit and enter floats in the procession.

"We are looking forward to seeing lots of well-known film characters bringing the glamour of the silver screen to Amesbury."

The parade will be the culmination of a week of events in the town, with a teddy bears' picnic, skittles night, and a music night also taking place.

The procession will take place on the morning of Saturday, June 17, followed by the carnival show on Holders Road Sports Field.

There will be four separate arenas playing host to a wide range of entertainment.

Bloor Homes regional sales director Kim Willcock said: "The Amesbury Carnival is a wonderful event for the whole community and we are delighted to be sponsoring it once again this year.

"We wish the organisers all the best with the preparations for this year's event and hope lots of people turn out to make it another roaring success."
