TWO men have been arrested in connection with theft and robbery at the Co-op in Kelsey Road, Salisbury. 

The men were arrested on Friday. Police say officers responded to reports from members of the public of a number of males camping in a field to the rear of The Duck Inn, Laverstock who were being abusive towards dog walkers in the area.

From the descriptions provided CID Officers were suspicious that the men may have been involved in recent incidents at the Co-op, Kelsey Hill on Tuesday.

Enquiries were made and two men were arrested on suspicion of theft and robbery at the Kelsey Road Co-Op and a further offence of theft at the One Stop in Laverstock.

A 19-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with two counts of theft and is due to appear at Salisbury Magistrates Court on May 12 May.

A 21-year-old local man has been released under investigation.

DS Nick Bailey said: “Due to the assistance of the public in reporting and providing detailed information officers were able to identify and detain these suspects quickly. The robbery was a frightening experience for the staff and we are doing everything possible to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

"I would like to reiterate the appeal for information regarding the robbery at the Kelsey Hill Co-op which happened at around 9.45 pm on April 18. If you saw or heard anything suspicious in the area please come forward.

"We encourage the community to report any concerning or suspicious activity as in this case it can prove key to other ongoing investigations and can help prevent further offences.”
