SALISBURY celebrated St George’s Day with a family fun day on Sunday.

Taking place in the Market Place and The Guildhall, the event included jousting knights, a puppet show and a court drama covering the trial of St George v The Dragon in the Oak Court.

It started with a short procession of city councillors led by the mace bearers and then a welcome from city mayor Derek Brown.

Cllr Brown said: “It went extremely well.

“We were lucky with the weather. I had the opportunity to wander around and speak to people who were enjoying themselves in the square. The stallholders and everybody there were very enthusiastic and cheerful. It was lovely.”

The annual event, organised by Salisbury City Council, also included performances from Sarum Morris, live music, face painting, street performers, craft stalls and children’s workshops.

Entertainment sponsored by Salisbury BID took place in the Old George Mall and The Maltings with opportunities to learn Circus skills and take part in workshops.

Historic tours of the city were provided by the city’s Blue Badge guides while people were able to enjoy traditional cream teas in the Guildhall.
