THE ‘Legendary Fat Blokes’ and ‘Bird On Bikes’ set off from Salisbury Rugby Club on June 2 to ride to Grenoble in France before trying to climb the famous 21 hairpin bends of Alpe D’Huez, a feat made famous by the Tour De France.

All 14 of the riders completed the 597-mile ride in six days and all successfully conquered the torturous nine-mile climb of the Alpe on June 9.

The team, Denis Bayle, Jeremy Daniels, Tim Gault, Mike Green, Graham Hillier, Don Mackenzie, Dave Murley, Pete Rattue, Chris and Cameron Stott, Steve Taylor, Neil and Naomi Tonge, and Pat Vaughan, were supported throughout by Alex Ferguson and Trevor Kay.

The challenge raised money for the Pembroke Suite, Salisbury District Hospital, in memory of friend and team mate Mark “Rocky” Rogers.
