SALISBURY homeless charity Alabaré is urging local people to help ensure that no one has to spend Christmas living on the streets.

The charity today (Thursday, November 9) launched its Christmas Appeal.

Andrew Lord, of Alabaré, said: “Christmas is a special time. Now more than ever we want to make sure that people have the opportunity to escape the crisis and fear of life on the streets; we want to give them the chance to transform their lives and have a bright future. But we can’t do that alone.”

Alabaré is asking people to look out for their red house shaped Christmas collection boxes in shops around the city.

“All donations make a difference,” said Andrew “And we appreciate every penny."

Maxine Moore from Alabaré’s home for young mothers and their babies, says putting a roof over someone’s head is just the start of the help that Alabaré give.

She said: “Young mums often come to us often with complex problems that have developed over a number of years. It costs £28 to provide the initial support that a mum to be receives when they come into our home. From there we can help them work through their specific problems – no two people are the same, and no one’s situation is that straightforward. There will be ups and downs as together we build their skills, confidence and health to make sure they can look after their babies, and move on to a successful independent lives once more.”

Joining Alabaré for the launch of the charity's appeal is The Bishop of Ramsbury, The Right Reverend Dr Edward Condry, who said: “I am pleased to be here today to support the launch of this vital appeal and the amazing work that Alabaré does for the homeless in Wiltshire.”
