SALISBURY Guildhall has been decorated with thousands of handmade poppies ahead of this weekend’s remembrance services.
On Armistice Day (on Saturday) there will be an Act of Remembrance at 11am, led by the Royal British Legion at the war memorial in front of Salisbury Guildhall Square.
And on Sunday, the annual Remembrance service will start at the war memorial in Salisbury Guildhall Square from 10.45am.
The Remembrance Sunday parade will start at Castle Street and will have representatives from the serving local regiments, veterans and cadets.
Everyone will gather at the war memorial for a two minute silence at 11am followed by prayers. The parade will then process to St Thomas’s Church for the Sunday Service.
The poppies adorning the Guildhall have been made by local people from recycled drinks bottles, crocheted or knitted to create a floral tribute on the front of the historic Guildhall in the centre of Salisbury.
Salisbury City Council leader Matthew Dean said: “The Salisbury Remembers Project has been a fantastic example of community spirit.
“Salisbury has made over 10,000 poppies in this poignant display, we as a council are honoured to be able to show our support for the Armed Forces with both our display and our Remembrance Service.”
“I thank all those local people who have got involved.”
