A MAN with a "nine-inch kitchen knife" was arrested in the city centre this morning.

Police were called to Winchester Street just after 9am to reports of a man with a knife.

One witness told the Journal two plain clothes police officers and one uniformed officer "bundled" the man to the ground and kicked the knife away from him.

He said it was "very scary stuff".

The man, aged 36, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a bladed weapon and taken to Melksham where he remains in custody.
