DESIGNS for a £14m revamp of Wiltshire College's Salisbury campus have been unveiled.

The project will include a new building to house a modern teaching facility and a redeveloped campus layout.

Existing buildings will be condensed to accommodate new engineering facilities, while the layout and appearance of the buildings will be improved.

Public spaces and landscaping will also be enhanced to achieve an improved look and feel to the campus.

Amanda Burnside, principal and chief executive of Wiltshire College, said: “The Salisbury campus is long overdue for redevelopment.

"There has been no major investment in the Salisbury estate for over 20 years and the time is right for a transformation on the campus.

“A large proportion of the current buildings date back to the 1950s/60s and they’re no longer suitable for modern teaching and learning needs.

“The Local Growth Fund has provided the opportunity for us to make plans to update the campus.

“Our campus requires re-configuring to provide a more efficient use of the space available and deliver a better provision of teaching and facilities with opportunities for additional higher level courses, to the benefit of the Wiltshire population.

“We look forward to meeting with the local community and hearing their views on our proposals to improve the Salisbury campus.”

The makeover comes after the college was awarded government Local Growth Fund money via the Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership (SWLEP) to invest in its campuses.

Details of the proposals will go on display at a drop-in event being held on the Salisbury Campus, in Southampton Road, on Monday, November 27, between 3pm and 7.30pm.

Members of the public, local residents, businesses and anyone with an interest in the scheme are encouraged to attend the public exhibition to learn more about the proposals, to talk to the development team.

A public consultation will take place ahead of a planning application being submitted to Wiltshire Council in the new year.
