AUDIENCES can join former Strictly star Kristina Rihanoff for a journey through time to discover the evolution of dance.

Dance to the Music is at City Hall, Salisbury on Friday (February 23), 7.30pm. She is joined on stage by former X Factor singer Christopher Maloney and Strictly dancer Robin Windsor.

“It is a perfect family show, there is something for everyone,” says Kristina, who was on Strictly Come Dancing for eight years. “It is very child friendly and there are lots of jokes and humour in the show.

“It is an interactive show so you are going to feel excited, hopefully reminisce and dance a little. It is a perfect night out.”

“Dance to the Music is a project I have wanted to do for many years. I wanted to create something similar to what Strictly is. It is a show that appeals to every generation and is a perfect family show.”

The show charts the evolution dance from the 1920s to present day as Kristina explains: “We have the biggest hits from each era and show all the dance crazes which were popular in that decade."

Kristina teamed up with Christopher after they met as contestants on Celebrity Big Brother.

“It is the first time [I’ve performed in Salisbury]. It is a beautiful area and I’m really excited to come. That is the great thing about the tour because you go around the country and see places you probably would never see. There are so many gorgeous places in this country and Salisbury is one of them. I’m very much looking forward to it.”

Kristina started dancing from a very early age and says her passion grew after being invited to a local ballroom school.

The dance star believes Strictly has helped make dancing “cool again” and inspire younger generations.

“This is exactly what I want to do. It is such a pleasure to see teenagers and kids coming to the show.

“That is what Strictly did so well – it’s made dancing cool again because they can see young generations involved in the show as well as see their favourite celebrity participating and think if they can do it I can do it. It is a great thing to be part of, and when you hear you’ve inspired my little girl to dance or inspired my son it is so special – it is just the best thing about my job.”

Kristina has dismissed a return to the show to focus on her family and being a mum.

Speaking about her time on Strictly, she says: “You couldn’t wish for a better job because it ticks all the boxes creatively, competitively and so on but at the same time it is a very intense show physically and emotionally.

“I had been on the show for eight years before I decided to leave and have a family. It just came to a point when I felt like I needed a change in my life even though I love the show and I’ve done it for a long time.”

She adds: “After having a family I had to think about what the next step was and it was the perfect period to start creating my own show and my own production and that is how it all came about.

"I definitely love choreography and directing so I can see myself gradually going that way and doing more work like this.”
