THE Prime Minister has offered her support to the Journal's campaign and urged people to "come and enjoy Salisbury".

During a visit to the city today, Theresa May said: "Salisbury is a great city and others should be happy coming here."

The prime minister met with local businesses in and around the Maltings which have been affected by the ongoing attempted murder investigation in the city centre.

Mrs May said: "There has been, as I understand it, a fall in the number of people visiting Salisbury, but the important message I’ve had today is that Salisbury is open, it’s a great city to visit and we want to see people coming here and continuing to enjoy the beauty and the history of this wonderful city.

"It is important for Salisbury, for local businesses, that we are able to see visitors come here."

She also praised business owners and shoppers, and said they have "tremendous resilience, great spirit and they look forward to welcoming people into this city".

The Journal announced its campaign on this website on Tuesday and it was met with plenty of support.

We are encouraging people to spread the word that Salisbury businesses are still open, by sharing posts and pictures using the hashtag #SalisburyisOpen.

Bill Browne, publisher, said: “We want to let as many people as possible know that Salisbury is still a great place to visit, shop and enjoy yourself.

"So go tell your family, friends and contacts about us and what a great variety of attractions we have here."
