ONE of Salisbury's longest standing shops is set to close in June, as keeping it open would be "unsustainable".

Russell and Bromley, on New Canal, will close its doors after more than 25 years in the city, despite efforts to keep it open.

The chain, known for its high quality shoes and accessories, confirmed that its Salisbury branch will close "sometime in June".

An exact date has not been confirmed, and it has not yet been explained what will happen to staff in the branch.

A spokesman for Russell and Bromley said a drop in trade in the city had led to the closure.

"Efforts have been made to try and improve this with a partial refit but over the past few years we have seen an increase in costs with a decrease in turnover making the branch unsustainable," he added.
