Salon thieves

THIEVES broke into a hairdressing salon and took about £1000 worth of goods, along with £40 staff had collected during a charity fundraising day.

Staff at Hair Art, New Street, regularly hold events for Jeans for Genes, inspired by the son of a staff member who has a hereditary illness, paying money themselves to wear jeans to work and putting out a collecting box for customers.

The money they had collected from their last event, on October 3, was in the shop's safe, but the burglars managed to find the key and took the contents, along with equipment including hairdryers and straighteners and various aerosols.

The burglars also caused about £300 damage while breaking into the salon.

The incident happened overnight between October 11 and 12.
