MORE than £600 was raised for Help for Heroes through a charity concert held in Wilton.

The concert at Michael Herbert Hall on March 28 was organised by the Wilton Royal British Legion band.

Opera singer Rosemary Finney performed, as well as Lloyd Rayner who played the cornet solo Fantasia Brilliante.

Plaques were also presented to five band members for a combined long service of 187 years.

Peter Bennett and Roy Dunford received plaques for 42 years service, Andrew Grigsby for 40 years, Tony Clavell for 38 years and Tony Gurd for 25 years.

Money was also raised through the Help for Heroes stall, run by Caroline Gurd, which made £115.

“It was an absolutely fantastic concert,” said the director of music, John Rayner. “Everyone said it was the best concert the band has ever done in 120 years.”
