SEVERAL groups working in the community are to benefit from grants handed out by Wiltshire Council’s South West Wiltshire Area Board.
At a meeting held in Tisbury on Wednesday the board agreed to give out grants of just over £15,000 to projects including new play equipment, Christmas lights and a community orchard.
The largest single grant was given to the Tisbury and Parishes Community Area Partnership (TAPCAP) to complete research on parking problems in the village, particularly around the railway station.
East Knoyle Village Hall is to get a £3,000 facelift while play equipment that had to be removed from a playground at Sutton Road, Fovant, on safety grounds will be replaced with the help of a £4,979 grant.
In Tollard Royal a parish-owned plot in the centre of the village is to be planted with a community orchard with a £239 grant match-funded by the parish council.
Mere Parish Council was awarded £641 towards the village Christmas lights while Wessex Community Action was given £1,310 to help with the running costs of the Sunshine Support Group, which provides support for isolated elderly people in Tisbury and surrounding areas.
