A PLAQUE has been unveiled to mark the achievements of a man who brought better drainage to Salisbury, Dr Andrew Bogle Middleton, who lived in Cathedral Close, resisted fierce opposition from the city’s civic society when he called for open drainage ditches to be filled to stop the spread of diseases such as cholera in the 19th century.
An inquiry found in his favour and the result was better health for the people of Salisbury and the eradication of cholera, a feat today’s civic society marked with the unveiling of a blue plaque at his former home on Thursday.
