A CROWN court trial was delayed on Monday after nine jurors got stuck in a lift and had to be freed by firefighters.
The jurors and a security guard were using a lift at the back of the court building on Wilton Road in Salisbury when a mechanical fault caused the lift to stop between floors.
The guard radioed for help and Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service was called out, but the people were stuck inside the lift for an hour and 20 minutes as firefighters tried to free them.
Firefighters eventually managed to get the lift back to the ground floor and force open the doors so everyone could get out and a trial, which had been due to start at 10.30am, got underway after lunch.
Engineers have inspected the lift and ordered parts to repair the mechanical fault and in the meantime there is another jurors’ lift being used.
