HUNDREDS of Second World War newspapers will go up for sale at Ringwood Auctions on Saturday.

Some 1,500 editions of the Guernsey Evening Press and the Guernsey Star, which were published during the Nazi occupation, will go under the hammer starting with the Evening Press dated Monday, July 1, 1940.

The edition details the Orders of Commandment of the German Forces during the occupation.

The 11 orders included an amnesty on arms, a curfew and a ban on the sale of ‘motor spirits’ (petrol).

The run ends with Evening Press, dated Thursday, May 10, 1945 with the headline Island Day of Rejoicing, which celebrates the liberation of the islands and the arrival of the British.
