Football death man named
12:45pm Friday 31st August 2012 in Headlines By Joel Holt
A DEVOTED Salisbury City supporter who died during last night’s reserve match has been named.
Kevin Taylor, 53, was cheering his team on against Gosport Borough at the Ray Mac Stadium when he collapsed ten minutes into the second half, just before 9pm.
Staff performed CPR until an ambulance crew arrived at the scene but were unable to revive him. A statement from the club said: “It is with great sadness and regret that Salisbury City FC has to announce that during yesterday’s reserve game against Gosport Borough one of our loyal supporters, despite the best efforts of medical personnel sadly passed away.
“After discussions with Football Conference, Saturday’s game at Chelmsford will go ahead and the Salisbury City FC players and staff will wear black armbands out of respect. There will also be a minute’s silence at Tuesday’s game against Bath City FC.
“Everyone at Salisbury City Football clubs thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.” Police were called to the scene and have confirmed they are not treating the death as suspicious.
