Rugby players from the Ellingham & Ringwood club have raised more than £3,000 cycling from Twickenham to the club’s Raymond Brown Memorial Ground in Ringwood.

The money will be split between Help for Heroes and the Rugby Football Union’s Injured Players Foundation.

The event, which was supported by the RFU, started next to the famous Twickenham pitch and the participants then headed 90 miles south to Ringwood.

The event was organised by Marie Corlett and Claire Dorey.

Mrs Corlett said: “We’re absolutely delighted that we were able to raise so much for the two charities.

“Over the years we’ve had to work hard to raise funds for our own new facilities, but we’re proud to be a community club and it’s great to be able to give something back to other good causes.

“I’d like to thank everyone who helped out on the day and all of the supporters who cheered us on. We’ve raised a significant sum for two great charities, but we also had a whole lot of fun doing it.”

Mike Cherrett from The Forge Cycleworks, who provided a support mechanic on the day, said: “We were delighted to support our local rugby club in this way and we’re really pleased that they did so well with their fundraising.”

Sophie Wolfenden from Abacus Van Hire, which provided some of the transport to Twickenham, said: “We try to support local organisations that are raising money for great causes and it was a pleasure to support the Ellingham & Ringwood Rugby Club with this, as we’ve had lots of involvement with them over many years.”
