A FATHER of two who has survived cancer three times is taking a starring role in a Cancer Research UK and Channel 4 campaign to Stand Up To Cancer.

Lee Hutchinson, 36, from Amesbury is supporting the campaign to raise money to accelerate groundbreaking research.

Famous names also giving their support include actor Gwyneth Paltrow and comedian Alan Carr. Channel 4 will support the campaign on-air for a week next month, culminating in a live fundraising show on October 19.

Mr Hutchinson has been chosen as one of the faces of the campaign, and can be seen on its website, where he is seen holding a bright red arrow representing the need for everyone to take a stand against all forms of cancer.

He was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2005. He recovered well following surgery but, in 2007, doctors found another tumour on his spine. Following three months of chemotherapy, it looked as though he would make a full recovery but last year a scan revealed a tumour the size of a grapefruit in his stomach.

Mr Hutchinson took part in a Cancer Research UK clinical trial called Gem-Tip, testing a new combination of chemotherapy drugs, which he believes saved his life. He is now in remission but has regular check-ups.

He said: “The experience has completely changed me and I want to give something back by offering to help where I can.

“Thanks to research, I am still here. I am so grateful for the treatment that saved my life. Sadly, not everyone survives. That’s why I want to do all I can to get everyone in Wiltshire to Stand Up To Cancer right now.”

A free fundraising pack is available with ideas of how to raise money at home or at work, and Cancer Research UK shops have a wide range of Stand Up To Cancer t-shirts, hoodies and accessories.

There are also wristbands available for £1 from Cancer Research UK shops, Tesco and TK Maxx stores from October.
