Festive activities at cathedral

THERE will be a whole host of fun activities for children and their families at Salisbury Cathedral this Christmas. The cathedral is running a free Christmas trail, All Things Christmassy craft sessions, story time around the crib and Festive Fun for the under fives from December 15 to Christmas Eve.

And Michael Morpurgo’s retelling of the Christmas story, On Angel Wings, will be performed at the cathedral on Saturday, December 22.

Sarah Rickett, director of learning and outreach at the cathedral, said: “As excitement builds up to the great day itself, let us help entertain your children with stimulating activities in and around this beautiful cathedral. We look forward to welcoming both local families and those visiting the city for Christmas to join in the fun.”

The performance of On Angel Wings takes place at 5.30pm and tickets cost £12 for adults, £6 for children aged 14 and under, and £29 for a family ticket for two adults and two children.

Festive Fun for the under fives takes place on December 17 from 10.30am to 11.30am and is suitable for children aged 18 months to four years, at £2 per child. The craft sessions will be held in the education centre from 10am to noon and 1pm to 3pm on December 20, 21, and 22, at £4 per child per session, with all materials provided.

Christmas story time takes place each day on the same days, from 12.15pm to 12.30pm. The activities culminate in the cathedral’s family service with a nativity play, which takes place at 4pm on Christmas Eve.
