MORE than 1,100 runners emerged from the mist in Laverstock as the annual Clarendon Marathon got underway on Sunday.

The course took them along the ancient Clarendon Way between Salisbury and Winchester and runners raised thousands of pounds for their chosen charities along the way.

The event, which was founded by keen runner Paul Elderkin in 1998, is now organised by Winchester Rotary Club with the support of Salisbury Rotarians and about 250 volunteers.

Volunteers from charities including the Trussell Trust, manned 10 welcome stations along the route to support the runners and cheer them on their way.
