Golden postbox receives visitors

Chris and Christine Power in Scotland
LARKHILL’S golden postbox, painted in honour of the town’s Olympic gold medallist Heather Stanning, was part of a couple’s whistlestop tour to celebrate Team GB’s sporting heroes.
Chris and Christine Power, of Titchfield in Hampshire, are racing against the clock to visit every gold postbox before Royal Mail begins painting them red again in the new year.
The Royal Mail marked every gold medal won by Team GB or Paralympics GB by painting a postbox in the athlete’s local town.
Although rower Captain Stanning - who won Team GB’s first gold with her teammate Helen Glover in the women’s coxless pairs - comes from Scotland, it was felt her achievement deserved local recognition so persons unknown - who may or may not have been her army colleagues took matters into their own hands.
Retired Mr Power, 69, said: “We were inspired by the fantastic efforts of all our athletes in the Olympics and Paralympics – they really did the country proud.”
A picture of the couple at every postbox will be passed on to their grandchildren as a reminder of the Olympics.
Their journey will take them 3,000 miles and includes trips to the Isle of Man and Sark in the Channel Islands.
