Stage combat at St Joseph's
PERFORMING arts students at St Joseph’s School were given specialist training in stage combat skills when a professional fight arranger dropped into class.
The year nine and ten students learned a variety of moves from Dan Burman before going on to teach other pupils at the school.
Burman, who recently worked on Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Snow White and the Huntsman, arranges the fight sequences in films and regularly appears in them as well.
Performing Arts teacher Rebecca Field said: “It was a real success.
“We did a big show afterwards and invited students from across the school to learn some moves.
“They remembered it all really well and were very good at tutoring each other.”
The class was part of a wide variety of performance opportunities recently introduced at the school.
The school has also entered into the global dance and drama competition, Rock Challenge, and will be performing at the Portsmouth Guildhall in April next year.
