Helicopter helps woman stuck in mud
EMERGENCY rescue crews, including the coastguard
helicopter, were scrambled to the New Forest after a woman became stuck up to her waist in
mud.
The 46-year-old woman was walking her dog with her
husband when she suddenly started sinking and became trapped in the mud at Acres Down near Emery Down.
After being unable to locate the walker, crews called out the coastguard who used the
helicopter to find the trapped women and direct rescuers.
The woman became stuck during a daytime walk.
However, she was freed within 45 minutes of her husband calling for help.
It is thought she left a footpath on land she believed she had crossed before.
A coastguard spokesman said they located the woman quickly and sent a 4x4 vehicle to help
the rescue effort.
A spokeswoman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said
up to 25 firefighters from Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst and Eastleigh were sent to the
scene.
"Crews used special harness equipment to pull her out safely and she was not harmed," she
said.
