RED lights in the sky gave people in Salisbury a weird and wonderful moment at the weekend.

UFOs were reported flying in the air in the early hours of Sunday morning, with many people spotting three red lights that appeared to be flying in formation over homes before disappearing into the distance.

The lights were spotted over Five Rivers Leisure Centre shortly after midnight.

Claire Mullins, of Hastings Court, and her partner Paul Weeks were looking out towards the leisure centre when they initially saw one red light which flew over their flat before another three appeared.

Miss Mullins said: "I saw a weird looking star and thought what the hell is that'. It couldn't have been a star because it was a red/orange colour. It flew off over the flat and then we looked back and there were three of them, which seemed to be flying in formation.

"We listened but we couldn't hear any engines. It was really strange. They were definitely flying objects and I couldn't identify them! It was like something out of the X-Files."

A spokesman from Wiltshire Police said they had received a report of about 20 orange lights in the sky and explained the military were doing manoeuvres involving parachutes that night.

But questions have been raised as to why, if they were parachutes, so many people saw the lights flying horizontally across the sky.
