Health and safety threat to town's annual carnival

I READ the recent Forest Journal cover article about the effects in Ringwood of changes to health and safety legislation regarding street closures with dismay, particularly as I have participated in the town's carnival and am on the festival committee which organises a number of charitable activities within the town.

Council has a responsibility to protect Old Sarum

THERE is still time for Salisbury District Council, as representatives of the people of Salisbury, to use their influence at a rare moment when the council still have some say in how English Heritage maintains Old Sarum.

I WAS dismayed to read that the Dean of Salisbury Cathedral, the Very Reverend June Osborne had publicly supported Dr Rowan Williams over his speech calling for parts of Sharia law to be incorporated into British Law.

ROBERT Key's "View from the Commons" in last week's Journal throws up many employment and housing statistics but the final requirement of possibly 16,000 new dwellings by 2020 is indeed alarming when balanced against environmental impact and the quality of life.

I SEE the powers that be have apparently scrapped plans for the expensive and impractical Stonehenge tunnel, which would not be either visitor or resident friendly.
