One million users can't be wrong
THERE have been a number of complaints in The Journal recently concerning the lateness or non-appearance of some of the Wilts & Dorset buses on a number of routes.
This has put many people to considerable inconvenience, but I hope that the letter from the District Council's portfolio holder for transport will give passengers more hope for a better service.
My principal reason for writing is to commend the Park & Ride service, now operable from four sites on the edge of the City.
I note that the millionth passenger, recorded on the Britford site, has just received an award for clocking up that splendid number of people using the service since it began at the Beehive four years ago.
A friend has told me that the London Road site is little used as yet, but I was able to reassure her that the Beehive took some time to take off and is now very well used.
May I appeal to more of your readers to use this service? It costs only £2 a day to park and this covers transport to and from the City for the driver and up to six other car passengers.
Those with Salisbury District Council senior bus passes can park without charge, provided they show their pass and ticket to the attendant on their return. This is a fact not generally known.
I wish also to commend the politeness and helpfulness of the Park & Ride drivers. Roll on the fifth site, eventually to be opened somewhere along the Southampton Road!
