The 2012 Local Hero Awards have been launched this week and now is your chance to tell us about those special people who deserve to be part of this wonderful event.

Each year these awards, which are a collaboration between the Journal and Spire FM, tell the stories of the people who make Salisbury and the surrounding area a better place to be.

Many of them have never received a public ‘thank you’ for all the work they do to help others and their communities, and this is your chance to make sure they get the recognition they deserve.

Nominations are now open and we want to hear about those people you feel are worthy of the title “hero”.

We’re looking for ordinary people who do extraordinary things and who make a difference in many ways.

They could be an inspirational boss or teacher, a tireless fundraiser or committed charity worker, or a devoted carer.

There are awards for medical professionals, members of the emergency services and armed forces, children and young people and good neighbours.

This year’s awards have some new categories including best charitable company and employee of the year.

And the event will culminate with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Everyone nominated will be invited to the Local Hero Awards ceremony at Salisbury Arts Centre on Sunday, October 21.

This is a happy, inspirational and sometimes tear-jerking occasion where the audience hears how the nominees have improved the lives of others.

If you know of someone who deserves to be part of the inspiring event then fill in the form below and tell us about them.
