CHILDREN, parents and residents in Ringwood are finding their way around a fence, which has been put up to prevent access onto the busy Hightown Road.
Hampshire County Council has installed the fence at the end of Victoria Gardens to stop people jumping across into to the road, which has no pavement.
At the council’s recent recreation, leisure and open spaces committee meeting, cllr Neville Chard explained that this area was once a pathway.
Deputy town clerk Jo Stannard told the Journal that a road safety scheme for further along Hightown Road was currently awaiting a safety audit at Hampshire County Council.
She said an alternative crossing is needed, as the informal access was dangerous.
Members agreed that a long term solution for access needs to be found to ensure public safety.
A meeting between HCC, NFDC and Ringwood Town Council is due to take place on September 17.
