Heroic police rescue woman from Forest ditch

TWO Hampshire police officers have been hailed as heroes after rescuing a woman from a ditch in forest at Ibsley.

Jacqueline Fry, 62, was walking through Ibsley last week, alongside her daughter's horse when she saw a cat with a baby rabbit in its mouth run past her.

Wanting to try to free the rabbit before it was killed, she chased after the cat but fell head-first into a ditch, breaking her arm and injuring her leg.

By chance, moments after the incident, a passing police car stopped and officers called an ambulance to take Jacqueline to Royal Bournemouth Hospital, looking after her daughter and driving her car to Ringwood police station.

Jacqueline, who lives in Bridge Street and has worked at Sainsbury's in Somerford for 25 years, said: "No one believes me that these policemen just happened to be passing minutes after I fell and hurt myself.

"It was so lucky and they were so kind. They really went beyond the call of duty to make sure myself and my daughter were as comfortable and calm as possible.

"They were two quite youngish gentlemen. The police get quite a bad rap these days for things, but this just makes you realise that they do a lot of good as well, which is refreshing."

She added: "I'd just like to thank them because they did more than was required. You don't see an awful lot of that nowadays."
