Residents frustrated over new recycling service problems
AN elderly resident of Ashley Heath is furious that Dorset Waste Partnership has not delivered his garden waste bin, almost two months after placing his order.
A new Recycle for Dorset collection service was introduced in parts of East Dorset on October 29, including a new garden waste collection service giving gardeners a wheelie bin that will be emptied for £35 per year, or a smaller container for £25.
But some gardeners have not had their bins delivered, and other teething problems have seen residents’ waste, divided into six different bins collected on different days in different areas, left at the kerb uncollected.
Resident Rodney Hannam, 81, said: “I am still living in my own home with my wife Dorothy and I manage a garden of about a third of an acre.
Difficult “I have a chronic lung condition, which makes mowing without a recycling bin very difficult as I have to take all the cuttings to the bottom of the garden in stages.
“My neighbours have all had their bins delivered and yet I am still waiting. I have contacted the council several times yet I am still left in the dark as to why I have not received my bin, which I ordered and paid for on October 3.”
Mr Hannam added: “I want to stay in my home for as long as I can and it is important to me to take care of my garden, which is mostly laid to lawn.
“Keeping it tidy is no easy feat but without a bin it is even trickier as I have to make more journeys and do more lifting.”
A spokesman from Dorset Waste Partnership apologised to residents who are still waiting for bins and said that while residents had to pay up front, their subscription would not begin until after they received their containers.
He said: “We have had a heavy volume of calls and we have placed more resources with our customer services to deal with these, and we are now getting on top of it.
“Everyone who ordered a bin should receive it by |the end of November.”
A statement on Dorset Waste Partnership’s website states: “We are currently aware of a number of teething problems including missed collections, undelivered containers and other issues affecting a minority of households in the first few weeks of the service.
“We are working hard to rectify these as quickly as possible.”
