STUDENTS from The Burgate School in Fordingbridge scooped £1,200 for charity at a Lions’ Den event at Ringwood School.

The Ringwood and Fordingbridge Lions Club event challenged teams to put together a ten-minute presentation outlining the work of a local charity of their choice and why they deserved to win a share of the money.

A panel of three judges asked the students questions before deciding which charities would be given a share of £1,600.

Grace Strachan, Niamh Stott, Andy Stride and David Cakebread impressed the judges the most and were given £500 for The Honeypot Children’s Charity, which provides support and experiences for less fortunate children.

David said: “All of us who took part enjoyed having the opportunity to speak to an audience about charitable organisations that are close to us both individually, and collectively as a school.

“We were really proud to be able to win the majority of the funding for our chosen charities.”

The other Burgate teams chose to represent BASICS Hampshire, Hand on Heart and Lucy’s Days Out.

Headteacher David Pover said: “I was especially proud of our pupils; they were passionate, knowledgeable and convincing about the charities they were pitching on behalf of.”
