YOUNGSTERS from Fordingbridge met a Hollywood composer, and got the chance to produce their own soundtrack.

Pupils from Forres Sandle Manor School spent a day with Hollywood composer Harry Gregson-Williams, who composed scores for Shrek, Chicken Run and Chronicles of Narnia scores.

Seven youngsters from the school travelled to Buckinghamshire for the meeting, where Gregson-Williams explained the processes involved in composing a score before the children produced a soundtrack for a clip from Shrek. Forres Sandle Manor director of music, Beverley Miller said: “I am always keen to augment the learning experiences of FSM’s pupils through exposure to musicians from all sectors of the music industry.

“This workshop underlined how the ‘beyond the classroom’ approach really lights fires in the hearts and minds of children and it allowed our most talented musicians to develop expressively through creative composition. Harry Gregson-Williams was truly inspirational and led the day brilliantly, delivering vast amounts of information in child-friendly soundbites. His presentation fused traditional composition at the piano with cutting edge music technology in an explosive description of his work.”
